LAE Sailing Trip
Eleven lucky students were chosen to be part of this year’s sailing crew with Rona Sailing Project. All applications were considered carefully and those selected were identified as the students who would benefit the most from this opportunity based on their applications.
Each students was awarded a bursary by Rona Sailing which significantly reduced the cost of this trip. Every student did their part by dedicating time to raise funds including putting on a teachers talent show and arranging a variety of bake sales.
Students, accompanied by an LAE staff member, experienced being crew for a week on a journey through The Solent and around the Isle of Wight. Working alongside a qualified and experienced captain students were split into two 'watches' for their amazing journey and learned to navigate, sail, clean and cook onboard.

What was the best thing about the voyage?
"Driving - it was a brilliant experience taking charge of the vessel and steering – I will never forget it"
"The new friendships we made on the trip. We are now friends back at LAE which I didn’t have before"
"This was my first time away from home and the trip gave me many new experiences and boosted my self confidence"
"The views, seeing the sunset and the peace at night was great for my mental health and I enjoyed all the tasks and teamwork"
