Marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
To mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence, sixth form students from across the UK were invited to a special conference at the US Embassy on Grosvenor Square.
LAE students heard from a fascinating panel of experts, including Kate Herbert, curator of the American Museum & Gardens, as well as experts of history and politics from the British Library, The National Archive, Benjamin Franklin House and Oxford University. They delved into the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence and explored the ways that this moment still resonates today.
Exploring this landmark anniversary, in the setting of the US Embassy, was a wonderful way for Politics students to think about the historical context of the Declaration and the ways in which this impacts American and global politics today.
