Local MP recognises LAE’s Oxbridge success and commitment to social mobility

The London Academy of Excellence’s record-breaking university outcomes have been formally recognised by Uma Kumaran, Member of Parliament for Stratford and Bow, who has written to congratulate students and staff on this year’s exceptional achievements.

In the letter, Ms Kumaran praised the “remarkable achievements with university offers” secured by LAE students this cycle. With a record number of students receiving offers from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, she described the outcomes as “a testament to both the leadership you show, and that of your staff, as well as to the students’ hard work, dedication and talent.”

The correspondence also highlighted the wider impact of the school’s work beyond headline figures. Reflecting on a visit to the academy last summer, Ms Kumaran noted it had been “wonderful to see firsthand the multiple talents of students at LAE and their pride in being students at such a brilliant academy.”

Particular recognition was given to the school’s role in driving social mobility. Referencing national coverage of this year’s results, she wrote that “around two thirds of students are expected to be the first in their families to go to university, and that 60% of offer holders are female — these are truly remarkable statistics, and I know the impact it will have on students and their families alike.”

Concluding the letter, Ms Kumaran commended the school community for “breaking down barriers in more ways than one” and expressed pride in representing the London Academy of Excellence as the local Member of Parliament.

The recognition reflects LAE’s continued commitment to combining academic excellence with widening access, ensuring that students from all backgrounds are supported to secure places at the most competitive universities.
